New York Main Street Grant Program
The New York Main Street Program, funded through the Office of Community Renewal, provides funds to stimulate reinvestment in properties located within mixed-use commercial districts located in urban, small town, and rural areas of New York State. NYMS is a comprehensive grant program that provides funding for local revitalization efforts and technical assistance to help communities build the capacity required to grow their downtown or neighborhood commercial district.
Oyster Bay Main Street Association has been the recipient of grant funds for the hamlet of Oyster Bay during two separate funding cycles of the program. The first in 2009 brought $200,000 into the downtown and the second in 2011 granted OBMSA $500,000 to disburse to building owners in the downtown. The funds awarded were to be used for streetscape improvements (benches, street lamps, etc.) and building renovations; specifically focusing on:

- projects visually prominent on Main Street;
- projects that included the renovation of residential units;
- projects with historic value or historic properties in danger of being lost in part or in total to disrepair or damage;
- projects that will reduce blight, contribute to the economic recovery of the target area, or realize a stabilization or expansion of a main street business.
