Directions by CarTake the Long Island Expressway (I-495) to Exit 41N. At this exit take Route 106 north for 5.8 miles, crossing over Route 25A.
Directions by TrainAMTRAK, NJ Transit and the Long Island Railroad serve New York City through Penn Station. The LIRR provides service via the Oyster Bay Branch to Oyster Bay - OR - more frequent service via the Port Jefferson Branch to Syosset (6 miles away). Both train rides take 60-75 minutes from NYC. Taxis typically meet all trains at Syosset. This is not always the case at Oyster Bay. Cab fares average $8 from Oyster Bay, $9 from Syosset, with $2 for extra passengers.
Directions by BusLong Island Bus service nearest Oyster Bay is at Syosset (6 miles) or Hicksville (10 miles). Interstate bus service is through New York's Port Authority bus terminal. Train/Taxi is the more practical public transportation option.
Directions by BoatThe Oyster Bay Marine Center is a full-service operation with showers, fuel, ice, and store. Call 516-922-6331 or VHF Channel 71 for transient mooring and launch services, including free dinghy travel to shore. Launches run from 7am-11pm.
Sagamore Yacht Club provides guest moorings. Call 516-922-0555 one to two weeks in advance. The WaterFront Center at the foot of the 500' pier is an educational facility with programs for school groups, sailing lessons, public sails, and charters on the Tahiti ketch & oyster sloop Christeen. A free dockside pump out service runs 24/7, and a floating pump out service is available (7 days, 9a-5p, May 1-Sep.). Call VHF Channel 9 for info. |
Directions by PlaneEach airport is about 45-60 minutes travel time from Oyster Bay. Rental cars and taxis are available at all airports, but rates are high. Bus shuttle connections from JFK and LGA are available to Long Island Railroad's Jamaica Station.
