The Oyster Bay Main Street Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to creating a healthy economy in an attractive hamlet while maintaining downtown Oyster Bay’s historic integrity. We follow the four-point approach to downtown revitalization as established by the National Main Street Center.
About the Role:
The Executive Director serves as the key leader of the organization, overseeing daily operations while executing the strategic vision set by the board. This role requires a dynamic, results-driven leader who can engage and collaborate with community stakeholders, local businesses, government officials, and volunteers to foster a vibrant, sustainable downtown district. The board seeks an organized, creative, and dedicated professional with hands-on experience in a similar role and a passion for community building.

Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Management
- Oversee all administrative functions of the organization, including contract management, staff and consultant supervision, and budget oversight
- Direct fiscal management, in collaboration with the board’s Treasurer and the CPA, developing budgets, and ensuring timely payment processing and fiscal reporting
- Maintain transparent communication with the Board of Directors, including scheduling, leading and managing Board and Committee meetings
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to non-profit governance
Leadership & Strategic Planning
- Lead and manage the overall operations of the Main Street Association in accordance with the mission, strategic goals, and policies established by the Board of Directors
- Serve as the public face and spokesperson for OBMSA, building strong relationships with local businesses, civic organizations, government agencies, and the media
- Work with the Director of Development to recruit, manage, and motivate interns and volunteers to support the organization’s programs, events, and initiatives
- Evaluate new and existing programming to ensure it is relevant to OBMSA’s mission and a prudent use of the organization’s resources
- Advocate on behalf of the business district and local residents and raise OBMSA’s profile by showcasing its impact on the local economy and community
Fundraising & Grant Writing
- Work with the Director of Development to identify and pursue opportunities for public and private funding including federal and state grants
- Oversee the development and implementation of fundraising initiatives, including sponsorships, grants, membership drives and special events
Business and Economic Development
- Work with local businesses, property owners and real estate agents to strengthen and grow the downtown economy by attracting new businesses, supporting existing ones, and promoting investment in the district
- Collaborate with public officials to advocate for policies and infrastructure improvements that support the downtown area’s growth and success.
Beautification/Design
- Building upon the current programs in place, expand and enhance the organization’s impact in the downtown through additional beautification programs, public space improvement projects, and streetscape investments
- Work with the design committee to highlight, develop and enact new programs and initiatives in the downtown
Marketing and Promotion
- Oversee marketing and promotional strategies to enhance the visibility and appeal of the Main Street District to residents, visitors, and potential investors
- Ensure that the organization maintains a strong social media presence and that the organization’s website, newsletters and other communication channels are being maintained
- Plan and execute community events, festivals, and other activities that draw foot traffic and foster a sense of community in the downtown area
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in downtown revitalization, economic development, non-profit management, or a related field. Prior experience working with a Main Street program is highly desirable.
- Flexible and adaptable working style with the ability to self-manage and work independently
- Well organized, able to manage a variety of tasks with deadlines, and ensure proper reporting and compliance
- Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking communication skills
- Proficiency in digital administration platforms (G Suite, Microsoft Office, etc.), graphic design platforms, and database management
- Prior grant writing and grants/program management experience, a plus
- Experience building strong relationships through a forward-facing, hands-on approach to community, business, and stakeholder engagement
